The Annual Australia Japan Society's annual Christmas party is one of the social highlights of the year. Held at the beautiful Karrinyup Country Club, the party features a full traditional Christmas dinner complete with plum pudding and brandy sauce along with prizes, give aways and Christmas carols everyone can sing along to. The general public will have the opportunity to come aboard the icebreaker Shirase and experience the lifestyle led by the crew and Expedition Party members on their journey to Antarctica. The Shirase will be berthed at Victoria Quay, and it will be open to the public. The Shirase commissioned in 1983, is a 134 metre vessel. This is the 21st voyage to research Antarctica.

海上自衛隊の砕氷艦「しらせ」が、第45次南極地域観測隊とともに南極の昭和基地へ向かう途上、パース近郊のフリーマントル港ビクトリアキーに寄港。艦内を一般公開する。「しらせ」は全長134m、1983年に就航。南極への航海は、今回が21回目。
