"Ikebana," the art of flower arrangement
is one of the traditional arts of Japan. Recently,
although based on foundations of traditional Ikebana,
the Ikebana techniques have been adapted to Western
style flower arranging which is becoming more and
more popular in Japan. The flower arrangement artist
Kariyazaki Syougo who displays peculiar color sense
and the original style, was charged with producing
arrangements for the Clinton presidential visit to
Japan.

自然に生えている樹木や草花を鉢に植え、時間をかけて自分の手で育てていく日本の伝統芸術の一つ、盆栽。最近では手の平サイズの“ミニ盆栽”なども出現。年長者の趣味というイメージが強かったが、日本でのガーデニングブームも手伝って、若者の間でも親しまれている。
