Perth Peace Rally
Six hundred protesters flocked to Perth's
Supreme Court Gardens on the bright blue afternoon of April 13
to take part in a peace rally organized by local anti-war groups.
The rally began with speeches made by various group leaders and
a vibrant forty-minute march ensued.
Rally Organisers Say
We asked the peace rally organisers their
opinion of the war on Iraq.
The US-led invasion of Iraq is an illegal and unprovoked attack
on a poor and largely defenceless nation and a war crime. As millions
of people involved in antiwar demonstrations around the world
have stressed, the war was not to bring democracy and freedom
to the Iraqi people but to establish US control of the country's
vast oil wealth as part of Washington's broader agenda of subordinating
the Middle East and the entire world to America's economic and
strategic interests. This answer was provided by The Socialist
Equality Party (Australia) assistant national secretary Linda
Tenenbaum and a member of the World Socialist Web Site editorial
board. The World Socialist Web Site (www.wsws.org)
