2019年を迎え、西オーストラリア州市民権多文化大臣のポール・パパリア氏、駐オーストラリア日本国特命全権大使の草賀純男氏、そして在パース日本国総領事の鈴木徹氏の三氏より、新年のご挨拶を頂きました。

It gives me great pleasure to wish the Western Australian Japanese community and the readers of The Perth Express magazine a Happy New Year for 2019.
Western Australia’s growing Japanese community is a dynamic and vital part of our successful multicultural society.
The McGowan Government acknowledges cultural diversity as one of Western Australia’s greatest strengths and recognises the contribution of the Japanese community to the social, cultural and economic development of this State.
The ongoing popularity of the many Japanese cultural events during the year, such as the Perth Japan Festival and the annual Shinju Matsuri Festival (Festival of the Pearl), which marks the end of the pearling season, provide the wider Western Australian community with the opportunity to celebrate our multiculturalism and learn more about Japanese culture in Western Australia.
Western Australia and Japan have a very special and long-standing relationship. The McGowan Government has been working to enhance and strengthen these links by re-establishing direct flights between Western Australia and Tokyo. I am very proud that on 26 December 2018, we announced securing a direct air link between Perth and Tokyo, which will bring more Japanese visitors to WA and help us grow this important market. The daily All Nippon Airways service will take off on September 1.
On behalf of the Government of Western Australia, I wish all Western Australians of Japanese heritage a happy, prosperous and peaceful New Year.
西オーストラリア州の日本人コミュニティとパースエクスプレスの読者の皆様の2019年の新年へのご多幸をお祈りすることができ大変光栄に思います。
成長し続ける西オーストラリア州の日本のコミュニティは、ダイナミックかつ、成功する多文化社会において必要不可欠な存在です。
マガウワン政府は文化的多様性を西オーストラリア州の最大の強みの1つと捉え、そして社会的、文化的、経済的発展に対する日本のコミュニティの貢献を認識しています。
年間を通して行われる日本のさまざまな文化的なイベント、中でもパースジャパンフェスティバルや、真珠の季節の終わりを告げる毎年恒例の真珠祭り（パールフェスティバル）などの人気は、幅広い西オーストラリア州のコミュニティに多文化主義を称え得ていると共に、日本の文化をさらに知る機会を提供しています。
西オーストラリア州と日本は長期にわたり、非常に特別な関係にあります。マガウワン政府はこれらの関係を充実させ、強化するために西オーストラリア州と東京の直行便再開設に取り組んできました。2018年12月26日、パースと東京間にその直行便を就航するといった発表ができたことはとても誇りに思っています。そしてこれにより、より多くの日本人観光客が西オーストラリア州を訪れ、我々の重要な市場を成長させる手助けとなるでしょう。全日本空輸は2019年9月1日より直行便のサービスを毎日運行する予定です。
西オーストラリア州政府を代表して、西オーストラリア州の全ての日本人に幸福と繁栄、そして平和な新年を迎えられることを心より祈念致します。

パースエクスプレスの読者の皆様、明けましておめでとうございます。2019年が皆様にとりまして幸多き年となることをお祈り申し上げます。
昨年も日豪関係があらゆる分野、あらゆるレベルにおいて一層深まっていることを実感させる行事が数多く行われました。
首脳レベルでは、2014年以降首脳の相互訪問が毎年行われておりますが、昨年は11月に安倍総理が日本の首相として初めてダーウィンを訪問されました。訪問中、日豪両首脳は、日豪両国は共通の価値観及び利益に基づく深く永続的で強靱な友好協力関係を有しており、日豪関係は両国の人々の強い絆のもとに築かれている旨確認しました。両首脳がダーウィンという歴史の現場で第二次世界大戦の戦没者及び犠牲者に思いを致し、地域の平和な未来を確実にするため、たゆみなく努力する決意を確認し、日豪和解のメッセージを発信したことの意義は大きいと思います。
経済分野では、日本は豪州にとり第2位の貿易相手国です。また、日本の対豪直接投資額は2017年には900億豪ドルと、2010年の500億豪ドルと比べ80％の増大を示しています。更に、環太平洋パートナーシップ（TPP）協定も妥結し、遂に昨年末に発効しました。これによる日豪関係の一層の深化が期待されます。
引き続き人と人との交流も盛んです。両国の姉妹自治体提携は108件を数え様々なかたちで交流が行われています。2018年の訪日豪州人数は10月時点で前年同月比12.6％増の約45万人、2017年に豪州を訪問した日本人は約43万人でした。昨年末に発表されたANAの成田・パース直行便就航のニュースはこれを待ち望んでいた在留邦人の皆様にとりビッグニュースだったと思います。これにより、日本と西オーストラリアの人の行き来が一層盛んになることが期待されます。また、現在約350名の豪州人の青年がJETプログラムで日本に滞在中です。市民交流や草の根の交流は二国間関係の根幹を成すものであり、このような活発な交流は心強い限りです。また私自身訪問した豪州各地において、とりわけ若い世代の人達の日本文化に対する関心や我々日本人に対する親しみの気持ちがこれまで以上に高まっていることを実感しております。両国の若い世代同士の交流が一層活発化することにより、多様で強固な次世代の日豪関係が構築されていくことを期待します。
最後に私事となりますが、このたび帰朝発令を受けオーストラリアを離れることとなりました。3年9ヶ月に及ぶ在任中、日豪関係の強化と発展、相互理解の増進に全力を尽くして参ったつもりですが、これもひとえに在留邦人の皆様方のご理解とご支援・ご協力の賜物と存じます。この場をお借りし心より感謝申し上げますとともに、日豪関係の更なる発展・深化、そして在留邦人の皆様方のご健勝とご多幸を祈念いたしまして離任のご挨拶とさせていただきます。本当にありがとうございました。

パースエクスプレスの読者の皆様、新年明けましておめでとうございます。
私は、昨年12月10日にパース総領事を拝命しました。今回のパース勤務は、私にとって初めての豪州での勤務です。パースの土を踏むのも初めてです。日本と西豪州は非常に良好な関係にありますが、皆様のご協力を得て、この関係を更に発展させるため努力する所存ですので、宜しくお願いします。
日本と豪州は、自由や民主主義、法の支配といった基本的価値観を共有し、戦後長年にわたり相互に恩恵のある経済関係を享受してきました。近年では安全保障、科学技術、教育など様々な分野で協力を拡大しています。昨年11月にダーウィンでの安倍総理とモリソン首相との首脳会談でも、両国の「特別な戦略的パートナーシップ」が強調されました。
また、日本と西豪州との関係も、鉄鉱石や液化天然ガスといった鉱物資源やうどん用小麦など農林産品の貿易を中心に、安定的で良好な関係を維持しています。経済関係だけでなく、様々なレベルでの人的交流も活発です。西豪州の人々の日本への関心は高く、日本語学習者が多いのも特徴です。また、姉妹都市交流に基づく学生交流も盛んで、日本からの短期留学生の増加も見られます。このような次世代を担う青少年の交流は、日本と西豪州間の相互理解を深める上で非常に重要です。
この関係で、昨年12月末に全日空による成田・パース間の直行便の就航が発表されたことは大変喜ばしく、日本と西豪州の関係は新たな時代を迎えることになるでしょう。これにより、多くの日本人、また西豪州の方々がこれまで以上に互いの国を訪問する機会が増え、経済活動や人的交流が更に拡大し、相互理解がより一層深まるものと確信しています。
日本総領事館にとって、在留邦人及び日本からの旅行者の皆様の当地での生活や滞在が安全かつ快適なものになるよう、必要な情報提供や支援をすることが最重要の使命であり、そのために皆様のご意見も伺いながら、必要な対応を取って参ります。また、当館の業務にご理解とご協力をいただくためにも、広報活動は重要と考えており、昨年に引き続きこのパースエクスプレスの誌面や当館フェースブック、ツイッターを通じ、広報活動も積極的に行っていきたいと考えています。皆様のご意見を是非ともお寄せください。

Firstly, I’d like to wish all the readers of The Perth Express a happy New Year.
I was officially appointed as Consul-General of Perth on December 10 last year, and this is my first time to be posted to Australia. Indeed, it is also my first time to step foot on Perth soil. I know that Japan and Australia have a very strong relationship, and with your help, I sincerely hope to be able to develop this even further.
With shared core values including a commitment to freedom, democracy, and the rules-based international order, Japan and Australia have come to enjoy a mutually beneficial economic relationship spanning the long post-war period. Recent years have also seen a great increase in cooperation across fields such as security, science and technology, and education. In November last year, Prime Minister Abe met with Prime Minister Morrison in Darwin, where talks were held, and both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to further deepening the Special Strategic Partnership between our two countries.
Japan and Western Australia enjoy a stable and healthy relationship, underpinned by trade in agricultural and mineral resource products such as udon noodle wheat, iron-ore and liquefied natural gas. The relationship is not limited to economic spheres, but is also very active on various levels of people to people exchange. Western Australians have a high level of interest in Japan, and the high number of people studying Japanese here is characteristic of this. Student exchange, on which sister city exchange is built, is also more popular than ever, and we are also seeing an increase in student numbers coming here for short term study. Exchange such as this which will influence our future generations, plays a crucial role in deepening mutual understanding between Japan and Western Australia.
In the context of this relationship, we were very happy to hear the announcement by All Nippon Airways (ANA) at the end of December last year, of the start of direct flights between Perth and Narita, Tokyo, which will certainly usher in a new era in the friendship between our countries. This will result in many more opportunities for both Japanese and Western Australians to be able to visit each other’s countries, increasing person to person exchange, creating more economic activities, and taking our mutual understanding to another level.
The most important mission for us here at the Consulate-General of Japan, is to provide the necessary support and information to enable Japanese residents and tourists to have a comfortable and safe time here in Perth. We will continue to do our best to provide the necessary services while listening to your valued opinions. In addition, we understand that effective communication is vital to gaining your cooperation and understanding of our activities at the Consulate-General, and we will continue to proactively share information with you via tools such as The Perth Express magazine, and our Facebook and Twitter accounts. Please don’t hesitate to give us your feedback.
